All season long, thanks to the generous sponsorship of HOKA shoes, MySportsResults has recognized the final HOKA Indoor Athletes of the Week. After a weekend with two national track and field championships in Boston and New York City, MSR has chosen Jill Roberts of Wilton and Laniyah Henderson of Bloomfield along with Michael Johnson of Lewis Mills and Ridgefield’s boys distance medley relay team. In addition to the recognition, award recipients receive a commemorative t-shirt in recognition of their performance from Marathon Sports.

Wilton’s Jill Roberts has had a great season already and she got even better last week. The senior, who has returned from ACL surgery, was the State Open and New England runner-up already this season. But she won her biggest meet of her life, taking the gold medal in the Emerging Elite 60m hurdles at The Nike Indoor Nationals. She had the fastest time in the prelims, semifinals and finals, running 8.88, the 7th fastest time in state history.

Laniyah Henderson was instrumental in Bloomfield’s State Open championship running leg of the 4x400m and scoring in the long jump. But on Sunday, the senior won her biggest meet yet, taking the gold in the Emerging Elite Triple Jump at Nike Nationals Indoor TF Championships. Her jump of 39’1.0” was not only a two-foot personal best, it was also only 15-inches less than the Connecticut indoor state record.

Only two boys have ever run faster 55m hurdles than Michael Johnson of Lewis Mills in Connecticut history. Normally that is enough to run the table on post season honors, but this year happened to match up with state record holder Josh Mooney. Johnson took his considerable talents to another event and found even more glory. The senior, who will attend University of Connecticut next year, took 3rd in the pentathlon to earn All-American honors at the New Balance Nationals Indoor meet. His score of 3,595 points is behind only Brian Brophy on the all-time CT performance list. Among his five events (Long Jump PR 21’0.25”, Shot Put PR 38’9.75”, High Jump PR 5’10.5”, 1000m PR 2:50.15) Johnson also ran a PR 8.17 for 60m hurdles, which ranks him 9th on the CT all-time list.

Finally, we have Ridgefield’s distance medley relay that took third at the New Balance Nationals Indoor meet. The team of Liam Edson. Ethan Walls, Isaac Graber and Steven Hergenrother teamed up and ran 10:09.56. Walls and Hergenrother were part of last year’s team that finished 5th to earn All-American for the second year in a row for the Tigers. Their time this year was not only sixth best in the country, but they also now have the 4th fastest time in state history.
