While a smaller contingent of CT athletes travelled southwest to compete in The Nike Indoor Nationals at the Nike Track and Field Center in The Armory, New York they acquitted themselves well featuring an All-American performance on Saturday by the Hillhouse boys 55m shuttle hurdle team. The meet also featured two more top ten CT all-time performances in the boys and girls pole vault.

Hillhouse Relay Earns 5th Place for All-American Honors

It wasn’t out of the realm that the Hillhouse boys could do well in the 55m shuttle hurdle championship relay on Saturday with two of the top ranked hurdlers taking part but it was pure excitement as the quartet of Chakour Biao, William Gibson, Mekkhi Adkins and Amir Phelmetto finished 5th in 32.97. While the event is not usually included in many meets due to the complexity of the back and forth nature of the event in alternating lanes the finish by the Hillhouse team ranks them as #4 CT all-time.

Amlicke of Staples Soars to New Height

As the FCIAC and Class L champion, Derek Amlicke of Staples has known what it is like to soar to new heights this season. In those two meets, Amlicke had cleared his best of 14’6” for the victories. After second place finishes at the Open and Eastern States championships at 14-ft he was primed for a new height on Saturday in the Boys Championship Pole Vault. On his fifth attempt of the day, Amlicke finally cleared 15’0.25” to finish 11th, best in state this season and him moved up on the state all-time list as the #8 best vaulter.

Weston’s Wiener Surpasses 12’ Mark

In winning the State Open indoor championship, Weston’s Ellison Weiner equaled her outdoor best of 12-feet. On Sunday in the Girls Pole Vault Championship was perfect as she cleared three successive heights to gain a PR of 12’0.25” and a seventh place overall. Her performance also earned her a #9 rank on the state all-time list and best in the state this season.

Roberts Wins Emerging Elite Hurdles

Wilton’s Jill Roberts running for the Connecticut Elite TF Club won the Emerging Elite 60mHH in a time of 8.88.She won all three rounds and her time would have finished 11th in the Championship section. She was State Open and New England runner up in the 55mHH and her time makes her the 7th fastest 60mHH in state history.
